Designed by a committee of students from sophomores to seniors, this was our Rising Stars 2006 Award Winning Set. Click here to read what the Paper Mill Rising Stars Critics had to say about our set. Mostly a unit set depicting rooms in the interior of the Palace at Siam, it featured several diminishing arches, the first being a false proscenium downstage of the main curtain. The panels that made the arches were all designed, built and painted by the crew. Though set in specifically in Siam, our set contained a more generic Asian theme, highlighted by the many pieces that came to us from our friends at Eclectic Encore Props, such as the large dog figures and giant urns. Accenting the main interior scene was a tremendous amount of gold banjo cloth fabric draped in each of the upper arches as well as the large mid-stage arch. Much detail was put into the two story ship used in the opening scene, though only used once in the show. The crew also constructed many other scenic pieces, such as the canopy bed and the functional map. There was also a very practical set of moving walls that created an alternate interior while we changed some furniture on the set behind. The lighting for this show featured some of my favorite looks. There was a white cyc upstage, as usual - but this time not for exterior skies. Spectra Pars were rented from Altman Lighting. These LED fixtures, combined with a traditional ground row of strip lights allowed for a seemingly limitless color palette to "paint" the cyc. Page 1 | Page 2
