The first of Mr. Millar's shows at THS. Art Deco was the style we were going for here.
The theme of curved pieces was carried out through the platforms. stairs and
walls. This set changed color two
or three times, originating as more of a Miami style of Art Deco before we decided on this color scheme. The inspiration for
the silver and gold accent colors came from a lighting fixture that I was
unfortunately unable to acquire for the set. Other inspirations were design
features found at the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and
several other photographs from various Art Deco books. The idea of raising
the bedroom and entrance areas came from photographs of another production
of Lend Me a Tenor that we found on-line.
As usual, furniture came from Eclectic Encore Props in NYC. The tables
were are second choice - our first choice for the coffee and end tables were
being used by Law and Order; and the dresser was previously used on an
episode of the Sopranos!
Though it took a while to finally take shape, this set has been
considered among recent students to have been one of our best!
