Probably my favorite show - and also my favorite set at THS. This year, our production was student designed by Adi Azulay, Colleen Dolan, Emily Dusedau, Jacqueline Leung, Jennifer Hellman, Dana Salvatore and Max Todd (all THS '08). A mostly unit set that featured custom painted canvas leaf borders over-head (scumble and stamp techniques), canvas tree legs, as well as three-dimensional sculpted trees (made from Brusan Molding Cloth), lauan tree cut-outs (happy in Act I, evil in Act II), and even a practical climbing tree. The set was dressed with various foliage items, including camo-netting and artificial greenery. There was a raised rear section, accessed by a curved stair-path on stage left and stepping stones stage right. In addition to the forest setting, there were wagons that rolled on to start each act: Cinderella's Castle, Jack's Farmhouse, and the Baker's Shop. The Baker's set featured a floating chair, exploding oven and collapsible shelving. There were also wagons in the woods for Rapunzel's tower and Granny's House, which used a cut-out and scrim to allow the audience to see inside. Pyrotechnic effects used in the show -included a flash pot, flash portal, hand cannon and hand sparklers. The lighting in this production, designed by Emily Dusedau and Max Todd created very dramatic looks that enhanced each scene. Lighting also was used practically, to show the passage of time. Once again, the Spectra Pars were used on the cyc, as were R40 Strips below and MR-16 strips at the foot of the stage used as footlights to create more dramatic color and shadow on the actors.
